A photo of Hancock Class members Elyson Serrano and Vince Tano. Hancock Class pledged in Fall 2003. While many people joke about the infamous Hancock Retreat of Doom, this term and pledges coming out of it brought about many great changes to Iota Phi's programs. Until recently, it was among the largest pledge classes of its time with 123 initiates. Given the constraint, this was the first term for which Pledge Parents planned Pledge Retreat instead of Pledge Fellowship--a change that has stuck since then. Additionally, Hancock Term pioneered the first formal Sponsor/Sponsoree program as a retention tool to use before to Big Bro pairings happen. Many actives who had pledged during Hancock have gone on to do great things, such as Elyson Serrano (former President, creator of the Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee), Michelle Chow (President), Vince Tano (advisor), and more. Most notably, Hancock Class includes Chapter Distinguished Service Key recipient Erik Staab, who created the chapter's website and ended the drudgery of tracking the hundreds of events Iota Phi hosts on paper each term. Hancock Term and its pledge class set a wonderful example for members who hope to create positive changes for Iota Phi.
